The Golden Temple
The abode of Bliss and Blessings, The Golden Temple is holiest of the shrines of Sikh religion. Guru Arjun Dev requested the great contemporary Muslim saint Mian Meer to lay the foundation stone of this shrine in January 1589, thus the building was completed in 1601 and the Holy Scripture of Sikhs Adi Granth was installed in Temple in 1604.
Jallian Wala Memorial
In 1919, The Jallianwala Bagh was no “garden but a desolate piece of land- a rectangle of irregular shape, about 229 meters long and 13 meters wide.The ‘Flame of liberty’ was constructed in 1954 and inaugurated by the President, Dr Rajindra Parsad in 1961. On the four sides of the memorial, the words, “In memory of martyrs-13 April,1919” has been inscribed in Hindi, Punjabi,Urdu and English.
Durgiana Temple
People visit this place in large numbers to witness the lowering down of the flags of both countries. The only post, where a special parade is organised to lower the flags simultaneously from the flag poles in the evening,beams with activity. The flag lowering ceremony, better known as the ‘Retreat’ is performed everyday, Shortly before sunset, by Border Security Force (BSF) jawans on the Indian side and Pakistan Rangers on the other side.
Sri Ram Tirth
On the outskirts of Amritsar is this significant historic birthplace of Lav and Kush. It is the spot where sage Valmiki’s ashram stood and this is a sacred place for the Hindus where we get a glimpse of statues illustrating scenes from the Ramayana.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama
Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama is a permanent visual documentation of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and it has been conceptualized and set up by National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Mata Lal Devi Mandir
Her Holiness, Godly Personified, with unlimited heavenly powers, Mata Lal Devi Ji is popularly known as “Pujya Mata ji” among her devotees. In her own words, “I am Dharam Maa to all those, who come to visit this temple and Almighty has destined me to serve them all”. This version of Pujya Mata Ji shows her greatness and unquestioned trust in God.
Wagha Border
It’s a very happy moment to see the evening scene of both the countries on the international border, called as wagha border, where the national flags gets lowered down with a systematic parade and salutes with national songs.
Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj
A very beautiful and large Gurdwara of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji outside Chatiwind gate in Amritsar City. Baba Deep Singh Ji became martyr in 1817(1760 A.D.) after fighting for Sikh religion.
